Stand Up Paddleboarding in St Ives offers something for everyone and the basics are easy to learn. SUP can be a sedate, relaxing way to enjoy beautiful surroundings. It can be a strenuous core work out that keeps you in shape. Trail a line behind you and it can even be a fun way to catch fresh fish for the evening barbecue. Fast becoming one of the world’s most popular water-based activities, we are very proud to have been amongst the pioneers providing some of the first Paddleboard lessons and tours in Cornwall.
Palm-fringed Porthminster beach is where it all takes place. One of West Cornwall’s most photographed spots, its balmy micro-climate wouldn’t be out of place in the Caribbean. Thanks to its unique Easterly facing aspect, the crystal clear water here is usually the calmest in the area. Combined with panoramic views of St Ives harbour and Godrevy lighthouse, you couldn’t ask for a better location for a Water-sports Centre.
Beginner paddleboarding lesson (1.5hr)
If you are new to stand up paddle-boarding and want to learn the basics in a safe and fun environment, then this lesson is exactly what you are looking for. During your hour and a half lesson, you will be taught basic coastal awareness and safety skills as well as various paddling techniques and balance tips. You will start out prone paddling, swiftly progressing onto your knees, before finding your feet and gliding through the water. Lessons run daily throughout the season.
Guided Tour (1.5hr)
For those with a little more experience, guided tours are a magical way to explore the picturesque coastline of St Ives Bay. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife as we’re often joined by seals, dolphins, sunfish, cormorants and gannets amongst a litany of other species.
Our guides are all trained beach lifeguards who live or grew up in the area and know all the nooks and secret spots that make this part of the world so special. Please be aware that this tour requires a basic level of fitness and paddleboarding skill.
